Understanding DTCs: reading and switching off fault codes
A diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is the standard way an ECU records a fault. Each code is a letter plus four characters: P for powertrain, C for chassis, B for body and U for network, followed by digits that narrow down the exact fault.
Why switch a DTC off
After a bench modification, a control unit may log codes for hardware it no longer monitors. On an off-road test vehicle you may want specific codes suppressed so they do not trigger the light. The key word is specific — a blanket clear is blunt and can hide real issues.
The DTC Table Explorer
When you open a file, DaVinci Ghost lists the DTCs it finds with human-readable descriptions, so you are not decoding raw hex. You pick the codes to switch off, code by code, and the file is written back with a corrected checksum. It is part of the same token as the rest of the file.
