Bosch EDC17, MED17, MD1 & MG1: a quick guide to common ECUs
Most engine control units come from a handful of families. Knowing them helps you read a file’s analysis at a glance.
Bosch EDC17
The workhorse diesel ECU of the 2010s, in dozens of variants (EDC17C, EDC17CP, EDC17CV for commercial). Broad solution coverage.
Bosch MED17 / MG1 / MD1
MED17 is the common petrol family; MG1 (petrol) and MD1 (diesel) are the newer generation used on Euro 6 vehicles, including the OPF/GPF era.
Siemens / Continental SID and PCR, Delphi DCM, Denso
Siemens/Continental SID (e.g. SID208) and PCR, Delphi DCM (e.g. DCM3.5) and Denso units round out most passenger and light-commercial diesels, alongside heavy-duty units for trucks.
