Is DPF off legal? Off-road use explained
It is the first question people ask, so here is the honest answer: on a vehicle used on public roads, removing or disabling emissions equipment — DPF, EGR, AdBlue/SCR — is illegal in most countries and can void insurance, fail inspection and carry fines. There is no way around that, and no software changes it.
What "off-road only" means
DaVinci Ghost is designed and sold for testing and educational use on off-road vehicles — bench work, research, motorsport and machinery that never runs on public roads. That is the legitimate context for the solutions it offers, and it is the only context we support.
Your responsibility
The software edits an ECU file on the bench; what a file is then used for is the user’s decision and the user’s responsibility. You must comply with the law where you are. If a vehicle will be driven on public roads, keep its emissions systems intact.
The legitimate side
Plenty of ECU work is perfectly legal: reading and diagnosing files, understanding DTCs, correcting a checksum after authorised changes, and bench testing on off-road machinery. Open a file and the analysis tells you what applies.
