What is Stage 1 tuning?
“Stage 1” is one of the most searched tuning terms and one of the most loosely used. Here is what it generally means.
Stage 1 in plain terms
A Stage 1 calibration is a performance-oriented change to the engine maps — typically fuelling and boost — designed to work on an otherwise standard vehicle, without hardware changes. “Stage 2” and beyond assume supporting hardware (exhaust, intake and so on).
Stage 1 vs emissions solutions
Stage 1 is about performance, whereas the switches like DPF, EGR and AdBlue are emissions strategies. They are separate ideas, even if people lump them together.
