Checksum error after tuning: why it happens and how to fix it
You edited a map, wrote the file back, and the ECU throws an error or refuses it. Nine times out of ten the cause is the same: the checksum was not recalculated.
Why it happens
An ECU protects its data with a checksum computed from the contents. Change any bytes — a map, an EGR or DPF switch, a DTC — and the stored checksum no longer matches. Many units also carry a CVN. How to fix it
Recompute the checksum (and CVN) against the original before writing. If it still fails
Check that the original and modified files are the same size and are genuine full reads — a partial read or a renamed file will not correct cleanly. Then re-run the correction.
